Indigestion in pregnancy can be very uncomfortable, particularly if you experience it at night. You may feel pain or a burning sensation in your chest, or feel a sense of heaviness or bloatedness. Burping or belching are common with indigestion and feeling nauseous or sick may also occur. Many people find that the problem is easier to manage if they do not eat for several hours before going to bed or lying down, but this can be tricky in the later stages of pregnancy.
Gaviscon Liquid is a good option to alleviate indigestion in pregnancy, neutralising stomach acid and forming a protective layer that prevents reflux. It can be taken regularly during pregnancy and breastfeeding and comes in a range of flavours. If you are considering taking any medication during pregnancy, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor or pharmacist to ensure that you have found the best option for your situation.
Gaviscon Tablets are another great option, especially handy when you are out and about. They are designed to bring you quick relief from acid reflux and heartburn and can be taken after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Alternatively, you may prefer to take Milk of Magnesia, which can relieve upset stomachs and indigestion throughout the day. You may also find that some foods and drinks can be helpful to relieve the problem, while some may make it worse. For instance, some people believe that drinking milk reduces their symptoms. Sleeping with your head and upper body elevated can also bring relief.
